Indonesia SNI certification

BSN (National Bureau of Standards), as a major responsible government department in Indonesia, has obtained permission from the KAN National Accreditation Committee to develop and implement standardization activities, establish certification services, and establish regulations and guidelines for identification and certification systems in Indonesia. Indonesia SNI certification is mandatory. The mandatory standards for electronic and electrical equipment are divided into voluntary and mandatory certification, and most electronic and electrical products are not included in the scope of mandatory certification.

Indonesia has recently issued a new regulation on labeling law, which stipulates that goods listed in the regulation must be labeled in Indonesian: The Ministry of Trade of Indonesia published the labeling standard no. 62/M-DAG/PER/12/2009 on December 21, 2009, and revised it on May 21, 2010. The regulation explicitly stipulates the requirement for multiple products to be labeled in Indonesian. The regulation will be officially enforced for new products on September 1, 2010. If the product is already in circulation on the market, there will be an 18 month transition period for compliance with the standard.

The regulated product range is divided into four categories:

Household electronic products, telecommunications and IT equipment (a total of 46 items);

Building materials (8 items in total);

Automotive material parts (a total of 24 products);

Other products (such as shoes, leather goods, toys, clothes, etc., totaling 25 items).

Little knowledge

Manufacturers have the right to use international standards or SNI standards for testing. When mandatory products are imported, they must be accompanied by a registered product certificate and number issued by the Quality Control Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce. The registered product certificate and number are only issued to manufacturers whose products have passed the Standard National Indonesia/SNI certification. The registered product certificate must be applied for at the time of product import, and the product number is valid for three years. Importers must indicate the product number on the packaging. In addition, factories applying for Indonesian certification require an ISO certification regulatory system.

Considering that the Indonesian government has implemented the Standard National Indonesia/SNI certification for relevant products since September 7, 2007, which applies to all domestically produced and imported products within the specifications, products that have not passed the Standard National Indonesia/SNI certification will be banned from sale, and products that have already entered the market will be forcibly removed from shelves. The mandatory industrial standards issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Industry cover areas such as automotive and motorcycle parts, home appliances, building materials, cables, etc. The authorized agency BSN (Badan Standadisasi Nasional) is responsible for drafting, formulating, issuing, implementing, and coordinating SNI national technical standards and taking the following measures to ensure the status of SNI technical standards in the country. The executing agency KAN (National Accreditation Committee of Indonesia) is responsible for accrediting certification bodies (such as quality systems, products, companies, training, environmental management systems, HACCP systems, forest conservation management systems), laboratories, and other compliant certification regulatory accreditation bodies, and assisting BSN Indonesia National Standards Agency in establishing and improving accreditation and certification systems. KAN is authorized to guide all government and non-governmental organizations in certification based on BSN evaluation and certification applications. KAN is also responsible for international recognition of certificates issued by its accredited laboratories and certification bodies.
